So here is my deep dark secret. I don’t like most books that I have read on ADHD. I find them complicated, one-note and hard to get through. But recently, I attended a lecture by Dr. Joel T Nigg. The lecture was fascinating and the information presented was informative and helpful. He had recently written a book on his latest findings and without thinking about it, ordered it on the spot.
And boy am I glad that I did. Dr. Nigg offers the most current information about the causes of ADHD, the impacts that environmental factors and genetics play (which we seldom talk about!), and breaks down the pros and cons of numerous treatment options. He shares how healthy lifestyle habits regarding nutrition, exercise and sleep can have positive impacts on the brain and describes various ways to maximize them. Best of all, even though his information is science based, he breaks it down into user-friendly and practical information that parents can understand and begin to use immediately. This book will help parents sort through the ADHD maze and give them step by step action plans for maximizing their children’s potential. It’s definitely a must read for anyone who has or is a caregiver for a child with ADHD.
