What To Do If You Are in a Car Accident

It’s summertime and many of us are excited to get out and enjoy the warmer weather. Along with fun summer activities and travel, comes an increase in people on the road - and unfortunately car accidents.  We hope it never happens to you or your loved ones, but in the unfortunate event that you’re in an accident, it’s good to have a roadmap to follow (especially during a time were most of us aren’t thinking clearly).  PRINT and then store this checklist in your glove compartment or somewhere that’s easily accessible.  It’s a great resource for new drivers to have on hand in case of emergency too.

CHECKLIST

  1. Stay calm and assess the situation

  2. Call 911 to report the accident and any injuries

  3. Move to a safe location and determine if anyone is injured

  4. Take photos of both vehicles, any damage, the scene, and license plates

  5. Write down insurance information, name, and vehicle details of the other driver

  6. Gather contact information of the driver and witnesses to the accident

  7. Provide your name and insurance information to the police

  8. Call tow company if necessary to tow your vehicle

  9. Obtain accident report

  10. If car is to be towed, remove all personal items from the car
